Baarle, art village along the Lys

The Kurt Defrancq Huis is settling in Baarle, a borough of Drongen (Ghent), for its first project. Due to the large presence of painters and sculptors, Baarle used to be known as 'Art Village along the Lys' and was mentioned at the same time as that other artist enclave, Sint-Martens-Latem. Thanks to the opening of the Kurt Defrancq Huis in Baarle, that title takes on a new lustre.

Living in Leiehome

For the residential aspect, the Kurt Defrancq Huis is joining forces with WZC Leiehome. Residents of the Huis will be able to move into their newly built wing, which will house 60 assisted living units. These modern, wheelchair-accessible apartments all have a spacious bathroom, kitchen, living room and a terrace. Residents can choose between a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment.

Create

The church, the library and the presbytery of Baarle - in the immediate vicinity of the assisted homes - support the cultural and artistic aspect of the Huis. They are unique locations, hosting studios, exhibition, theatre and meeting spaces.

Care

Residents can also rely on care services to provide them with optimal support. The experienced teams at WZC Leiehome provide this customised care.

Connect

We also see the Huis as an intergenerational meeting place of like-minded people. Thanks to the cooperation with local associations and local residents, the social life of Baarle gets another boost.

The realisation of the Kurt Defrancq Huis Baarle would not have been possible without the financial support of the GĂ©neret Fund, managed by the King Baudouin Foundation.
