KURT DEFRANCQ PRESENTS A BELGIAN FIRST:

THE KURT DEFRANCQ HUIS, FOR A LIFETIME OF ART

Artists or performers do not stop thinking, working and being creative when they approach retirement age. They simply don't retire, because the urge to keep creating is too strong. Yet there comes a time when care - no matter how minimal - is necessary or desirable. However, moving to a healthcare environment is often equivalent to being forced to give up creation. Soon this will no longer be necessary. Thanks to actor Kurt Defrancq.

After he came across a similar initiative in the Netherlands in 2018, Kurt Defrancq's dream grew to also set this up in Belgium. A Kurt Defrancq Huis offers artists a living and working environment, among like-minded people. Residents can live completely independently or use the services, support and care. It is a unique mix of living, a care story, with a cultural interpretation. However, the Kurt Defrancq Foundation also has a social role: it wants to be an intergenerational meeting place for young and old talents and also involve local club life.

A first concrete realization will emerge in Baarle (Drongen/Ghent), in collaboration with WZC Leiehome, supported financially by the King Baudouin Foundation and morally by the members of the General Assembly. But Defrancq likes to dream big and eventually aims to set up other Kurt Defrancq Huizen on various locations where everything revolves around a lifetime of art.
